The Sambalpuri sari is a type of traditional handwoven ikat sari, in which the weft and warp are dyed using tie-dying techniques prior to weaving. It is made in the Indian state of Odisha. Traditional designs on Sambalpuri saris are well-known and hold great symbolic meaning for the local culture. These saris exhibit the “Bandhakala’s” traditional skill, which is exhibited in the exquisite weaving of their tie-dye work, also referred to as Sambalpuri “Ikkat.”
